What are the Best Racial Abilities?
Racial selection is critical for the player’s character, as each race has its own set of racial talents that make them better suited for certain scenarios or instances.
Therefore, players can create impressive or even broken character builds by building around the strengths and weaknesses of a specific race. How do these racial abilities stack up against one another?
Corpse Eater (Elf)
The Elves stay true to their racial specialization with this talent. They get the Corpse Eater talent in addition to having a consistent amount of Loremaster in their stats.
It’s one of the most useful abilities to have, especially for exploration and unlocking some level paths. The Corpse Eater allows groups to discover passwords, skills, hidden locations, and even claim some hidden treasures.
There are numerous occasions in the game where having an elf or a Corpse Eater talent in the party will come in handy. Throughout the game, there are simply too many corpses to eat.
Dwarfs, in addition to being sneaky, are tanky due to their Sturdy racial talent. They gain a significant health boost as well as a dodging bonus, making them suitable frontline characters, especially when combined with physical armor types.
This does bind the dwarf to a specific playstyle, but players can safely disregard the talent if they so desire. Even if the dwarf in question chooses a more mage-inclined progression path, it will still be present and beneficial.
This talent is a lifesaver in any situation and can determine whether or not players waste a resurrection scroll.
Free Lockpicking (Undead)
Divinity: Original Sin 2 features stealth mechanics. As a result, it has lockpicking, one of the oldest friends of sneaking in RPGs.
Lockpicking, on the other hand, is a little tricky because players can quickly run out of lockpicks, and running back and forth for them is tedious. That is why having an undead in the party can be extremely beneficial to lockpickers.
Because of their thin, bony fingers, the undead can easily pick any lock. This is great for stubborn locks or doors, and it can open a lot of doors.
While the human race’s first ability is somewhat uninteresting, they compensated with the combat-focused talent Ingenious. Prior to the Definitive Edition, they received +2 Initiative and +5% Crit Chance, but this was likely overkill.
The Initiative bonus was thus removed from the Definitive Edition and replaced with Critical Damage, nerfing humans slightly.
However, the Crit bonuses remain valuable, particularly since that type of damage scales well in the late game.
All other races pale in comparison to the undead’s roleplaying abilities and versatility. Playing as undead in Divinity: Original Sin 2 takes some getting used to and is fiddly at first.
Most NPCs  will be terrified of these characters, and regular healing will kill them. Undead characters, on the other hand, can be more interesting and dynamic than any other.
As an added bonus, they gain the racial trait of their secondary race, such as undead human, elf, and so on.
Dwarven Guile (Dwarf)
Dwarfs, due to their small stature, have some unique skills that make them ideal for sneaking around. Because certain combat encounters are too difficult even for experienced players, the Dwarven Guile ability is one of the most important starting bonuses to have in the game.
There’s also the fact that combat in Divinity: Original Sin 2 can be tedious because it’s turn-based. Having a large number of combatants can be intimidating.
Sneaking allows players to avoid this in-game trap. In other cases, having a stealthy dwarf in the party is useful for sneaking into and out of high-level areas for treasure without engaging in combat.
Free Digging (Lizard)
Despite their pompous and arrogant personalities in the game, lizards aren’t afraid to get their claws dirty. Lizards are capable of digging for any treasure that has been revealed.
This is a useful talent to have, especially since players rarely know where buried treasures can be found in Divinity: Original Sin 2. Keep in mind that in order for this talent to be useful, players must have a character with high Wits.
