Have you ever wondered how those pesky spikes in 7 Days to Die can do damage when they’re upside down? You don’t have to worry next time you stumble upon one in the game.
If you place a spike trap upside down, it will still do damage to anything that steps on it. But how is this possible? Let’s take a look at the mechanics of spikes and see how they could cause damage even when they’re not pointing up.
How Can Spikes Do Damage When Placed Upside Down?
Spikes get damaged from doing harm to zombies. This same is the case as they continue to deal with zombies while upside down. However, there are reasons to use them:

- It creates an even, level surface for the zombies [1] to walk on, preventing them from bobbing up and down as they pass over them. As a result, this makes it easier to kill zombies on the spikes.
- When the zombie's legs break, the upside-down spike maintains the zombie on top, rather than allowing them to slide down and crawl between spikes. This will prevent a zombie from hitting the lower layer of walls or dirt surrounding the spikes, as well as the spike itself.
- If you somehow find yourself on your spikes, it's not difficult to run or jump out of them because it's a flat surface.
