If you’re a fan of Risk of Rain, you know that playing online with other players is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game.
But what if you don’t have friends online or don’t have access to online servers? You’re in luck, because in this post, our gamers will detail how you can create your own Risk of Rain server!
How to Make a Risk of Rain Server
There are two methods for creating a Risk of Rain server: the Steam Client and SteamCMD. If you want to run multiple instances at the same time, you must install them using SteamCMD.
Using Steam Client
- Locate “Risk of Rain Dedicated Server” in your Steam library. To do so, go to the Steam Client's "Library" tab and select the "Tools" category from the drop-down menu under the search bar.
- Scroll to and select "Risk of Rain Dedicated Server" from here, and you should be able to install it on your chosen device.

Using SteamCMD
- Make a new folder called "steamcmd" somewhere on your device. Next, extract Steamcmd. To fully install or update it in that location, zip it to the folder and run steamcmd.exe once.
- Make a new text file in the folder where you extracted steamcmd.exe. Open Notepad by right-clicking on this file. Paste the following there:
SET installdir=”AAAAA”
steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir %installdir% +app_update
1180760 validate +quit
- Replace "AAAAA" with the directory where you want to install the server. Maintain quotation marks.
- Close Notepad and save the file.

- To run the file, double-click it. If it fails the first time, right-click and select Run as Administrator. SteamCMD should begin downloading or updating the Risk of Rain Dedicated Server.
Conclusion
Creating a Risk of Rain server is a great way to play the game with your friends or other players around the world. You can either use the Steam Client [1] or SteamCMD to install the server and get playing.
