GSC Game World, the Ukrainian studio behind the highly anticipated game Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl, has become the target of another cyber-attack by Russian hackers.
In response, the developer calls on fans to refrain from accessing or sharing any leaked information that may surface due to the breach.
In a statement released on Twitter, GSC Game World revealed that the hackers, who have been relentlessly attacking the studio for over a year and a half since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, obtained game materials intended for internal testing.
The studio is concerned that leaked content could potentially spoil the immersive experience of exploring the game’s atmospheric and dangerous post-apocalyptic setting known as “the Zone.”

“These materials, although not ready for release, are crucial for our testing process. However, their premature exposure may negatively impact your personal experience of venturing into the Zone,” expressed GSC Game World.
This incident marks another instance of GSC Game World falling victim to cyber-attacks. In March, the developer reported blackmail attempts by Russian hackers, emphasizing that such threats were not uncommon.
The studio’s outspoken support for Ukraine’s military and its decision to use the Ukrainian spelling of “Chornobyl” in the game’s title has made it a target for these ongoing assaults.
GSC Game World has been unwavering in its dedication to delivering an exceptional gaming experience with Stalker 2. Despite facing numerous challenges, including this latest hack, the studio’s team remains steadfast in their commitment, pouring their hearts and souls into the development process.

Initially slated for release last year, the game’s launch was postponed to 2023. It will be available for PC and Xbox Series X|S, with plans for a day-one release on Game Pass.
As fans eagerly anticipate the arrival of Stalker 2, GSC Game World urges everyone to respect
their request to refrain from engaging with any leaked materials that may emerge from the recent cyber-attack.
By doing so, fans can support the studio in navigating this challenging situation while preserving an immersive and unforgettable gaming experience within the Zone.
Unfortunately, cyber-attacks targeting game developers [1] have become increasingly prevalent, underscoring the importance of cybersecurity measures and the need for the gaming community to stand united against such illicit activities.
