In the latest live stream with popular Twitch streamer Emongg, Jared Neuss, Overwatch 2’s executive producer, has confirmed that fans will have to wait until at least 2024 for new PvE story missions in the highly anticipated sequel.
Neuss shed light on the game’s PvE content, revealing that the upcoming seasons will not feature any fresh missions, setting realistic expectations for the player community.
During the stream, Neuss explained the delicate balancing act the development team faces in delivering story-driven content promptly while allowing sufficient time for adjustments and feature additions.

“Don’t expect the next round [of story missions] in the next season and the season after that, or anything like that,” Neuss cautioned, hinting at a prolonged wait before the arrival of new PvE [1] experiences.
Although no specific release date was provided, Neuss’s comments, coupled with the release of Overwatch 2’s seasonal updates, suggest a plausible 2024 timeframe for the content drop.
To assuage player concerns about the lack of story-driven missions, Neuss also discussed the team’s plans to offer filler content throughout the coming year. “To be fair, there’s a bunch of stuff that we want to do next year, or that are already in development for next year, that will fill the gaps that people will have in between,” Neuss assured.
He emphasized the team’s commitment to continuously tell engaging stories and push the narrative forward, ensuring that players won’t experience prolonged periods without meaningful content.

While Overwatch 2 has garnered significant attention from fans, the reception has been mixed in recent times. Recently, Blizzard initially announced the removal of the game’s PvE mode, only to reinstate it later in a more manageable form for development.
More recently, concerns arose when certain PvE content in Overwatch 2 will be behind a paywall. These decisions have left the community disappointed, prompting them to question the necessity of Overwatch 2 in the first place.
