Thousands of gamers have been eagerly anticipating the release of Fallout 4 and were disappointed when they found that some mods aren’t working. Luckily, there are a few ways to fix this problem.
In this blog post, we’ll show you how to get your mods up and running so you can enjoy Fallout 4 to its fullest extent:
How to Fix Fallout 4 Mods Not Working Issue?
Here are the best solutions for preventing the game from crashing while installing Fallout 4 mods. Additionally, some tweaking improves your modding experience.
Fix #1: Run Nexus Mod Manager (or Vortex) as Administrator
- To begin, navigate to the folder containing your Nexus Mod Manager (or Vortex modding software) for Fallout 4.
- Select Properties from the drop-down menu when you right-click the EXE file for your Fallout 4 mod software.
- Then click the Compatibility button.
- Choose the Run this program as administrator option, then click the Apply button.
- To close the properties window, click Ok.
Fix #2: Configure INI files for Fallout 4 Modding
- First, press the Windows + E hotkey to open File Explorer.
- Then open the Fallout 4 folder at this path: Documents\MyGames\Fallout4
- Right-click the Fallout4Custom.ini file and select Open With.
- Click Notepad to open Fallout4Custom.ini with that text editor.
- Copy the following code with the Ctrl + C hotkey:
- [Archive]
- bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
- sResourceDataDirsFinal=
- Paste that code into your Fallout4Custom.ini file with the Ctrl + V hotkey, then save it.
- Right-click the Fallout4Custom.ini file and select Properties.
- Uncheck the Read-only attribute checkbox on the General tab.
- Again, within the same Fallout 4 folder, right-click Fallout4Prefs.ini and select Open with to open the file in Notepad.
- Then, on Notepad's File menu, choose Save [1].
Fix #3: Enable Fallout 4 Through Windows Defender Firewall
- Select the Windows Defender Firewall applet after clicking the Start button and typing firewall.
- Click the Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.
- Select the Change settings option.
- Then, for Fallout 4 and Nexus Mod Manager (or Vortex if you use that), check both the Public and Private checkboxes.
- Click the Ok button.
Fix #4: Add a Fallout 4 Exclusion to Windows Security
- Select the Windows Security applet from the Start menu after typing Windows security.
- On the left side of Windows Security, click the Virus and threat shield button, then select Manage settings on the right pane.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Add or remove exclusions.
- Select the Fallout 4 directory by clicking the + Add an exclusion button, then the Folder option.
- Then select the Fallout 4 directory by clicking the Folder option.
Fix #5: Disable and Re-Enable Mods One at a Time
- Launch the Nexus Mod Manager.
- Then, in Nexus Mod Manager, select Fallout 4 to see a list of its installed mods.
- Disable all of your mods by right-clicking them and selecting Deactivate.
- Play Fallout 4 after disabling all mods. If deactivating the mods resolved previous game issues, at least one of the mods is faulty.
- After that, activate a mod and play Fallout 4 to see if there are any issues. Continue to test the game after reactivating one mod at a time until you find a faulty one.
- Deactivate any corrupted mods you find.
Fix #6: Reinstall Nexus Mod Manager to Update It
- To open the Run accessory, press the Windows + R keys.
- Click the Ok button after entering this command in Run’s text box: appwiz.cpl
- Uninstall your Fallout 4 mod software by selecting it and clicking the Uninstall button.
- After removing the mod software, restart Windows.
- On the NMM download page, click the Manual Download button to get the most recent Nexus Mod Manager version.
- Alternatively, you can save the setup wizard for that Fallout4 mod software by clicking the Download button on the Vortex page.
- Install the downloaded mod manager software.
